Categorizing Transactions

This is an important part of using any accounting software, enabling you to accurately track your expenses and income.  You usually don't need to get super detailed with this, but it's the base on which reports like your Profit & Loss are built, ensuring those reports provide meaningful information.

I will categorize your transactions according to your existing system, or help you develop a new one if needed.  If you're using "bank feeds," I can set up automation for activity that needs to be handled the same way every time.

Reconciling Accounts

When you reconcile, you're ensuring your account register is complete and correct.  Any differences between the software and your bank statement need to be investigated, so you can find out which one is wrong and fix it.  (Sometimes banks make mistakes, too!)

I will reconcile your bank and credit card accounts on a monthly basis, so you can be confident that your books are accurate.

Bills & Payables

Whether recurring or once only, it's easier to keep track of your bills if you add them into your software as soon as you know about them.  You can then check on what's coming due soon, to make sure you pay on time or even take advantage of early-payment discounts if your suppliers offer those.

I'll work with you to set up your recurring bills, and ensure they are paid in a timely manner.

Invoices & Receivables

If you invoice your clients, you then need to track those invoices.  When they are paid, the payments need to be connected to the right invoices.  Some clients may need a gentle reminder to pay on time, or perhaps a notice that they are late.  Reports can show you anticipated income from open invoices, plus how much you are still owed on unpaid ones.

I can ensure your paid invoices are closed out properly, send reminders (or automate the process), and alert you if clients are delinquent.

Payroll

An essential part of having employees, payroll can be complicated by situations such as remote workers, tips, retirement plans, insurance premiums, garnishments, or the need to code payroll expenses into different groups.  Mistakes can lead to costly penalties from tax agencies!

I can make sure your payroll is set up correctly, whether you're just getting started or concerned about possible problems.

Cleanup

You've been busy running your business, and maybe you've had to prioritize other things than your bookkeeping.  Perhaps the accounts haven't been reconciled in a while, or certain things may have been done at one time that could have been done better.
